Baines going for Creative GOLD in Commonwealth Games Broadbeach photoshoot !

Surrealist artist Andrew Baines was commissioned by the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games to stage a photo-shoot of suited professionals and Gold Coast identities running along Broadbeach in the world premier event ‘Water Cooler Games’ – In true Baines style, the photoshoot featured about 40 ‘suits’ carrying briefcases and mobile pones in a race along Broadbeach – into the ocean and an award ceremony to top it all off. This event took place April 8 Sunday on Broadbeach, Gold Coast.  Andrew will then create a series of paintings inspired by this photoshoot to mark the XXI Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Festival 2018 Gold Coast Co-Creative Director Kate Fell says Water Cooler Games will give viewers an “amusing surprise.”

“Andrew Baines is one of those artists who creates incredibly fun work that is inspiring on many levels – from his ability to create these zany photoshoots to his commentary on the slavery of office cubicles and corporate culture. Andrew Baines is one of those artists who creates incredibly fun work that is inspiring on many levels – from his ability to create these zany photoshoots to his commentary on the slavery of office cubicles and corporate culture. ”

“Andrew’s work brings a taste of the unexpected to Festival 2018; a mass of suits racing along the beach is not what you expect to see on a typical day,” Ms Fell said.

Andrew’s work is currently on exhibition in ‘The Best of The Best’  a group exhibition of Represented artists celebrating the Games on the Gold Coast at Gallery One , March 19 – April 15 , 2018.
