In the dreaming lightAugust 17 – September 3, 2018
The Directors of Gallery One are proud to present a collection of new work by one of Australia's leading contemporary artists Cynthia Breusch. Cynthia brings a cinematic charisma to her exhibition 'In the Dreaming Light'. Her paintings are a narrative of everyday moments basking in the surreal light of a time that is nostalgic, full of memories and ever so present.
'My work has always dealt with themes of Memory and Time. I'm continuing this with new works based on imagery from vintage home movies. In their radiant colour and spectral atmosphere vintage home movies have an enchanting surreal quality of everlastingness. Ironically made of ephemeral material themselves, their contents create an illusion of permanence; 'present' time is forever slipping away, but in the filmic parallel universe it is perpetually Now - we get to live forever.'
Cynthia's paintings and drawings are represented in the public collections of the Tweed River Gallery, Ipswich City Council and Rockhampton Art gallery, as well as the corporate collections of BHP Billiton, News Corp, the Tattersalls Club Brisbane, and the University of Queensland Press. Her work is in private collections in Australia, NZ, the USA, the UK, Germany, France, Fiji and the United Emirates. Cynthia lives and works in the world heritage area of the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney and has been represented by Gallery One since late 2014.
